1. Background and Rationale

The e-minds Initiative is a community-driven organization dedicated to empowering youth, women, and vulnerable groups through education, technology, and digital inclusion. In today’s rapidly evolving digital economy, many young people in Kenya—especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds—lack access to essential computer and digital skills. This limits their ability to secure employment or take advantage of emerging online opportunities.

The Digital Empowerment Program seeks to bridge this gap by offering comprehensive training in computer literacy, graphic design, website development, and online branding. This initiative directly contributes to Kenya’s Digital Economy Blueprint and Vision 2030, advancing national priorities such as youth empowerment, inclusive growth, and grassroots digital transformation.

2. Project Goal

To equip youth and community members with practical digital skills that enhance employability, foster entrepreneurship, and promote digital inclusion within their communities.

3. Project Objectives

  1. Enhance computer literacy among at least 100 youth and young adults by providing hands-on training in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  2. Promote digital creativity and self-employment through training in Canva graphic design and WordPress website development.

  3. Build participants’ capacity in digital presence and online branding to help them showcase their skills, products, and services.

  4. Foster mentorship and leadership by connecting participants with professionals and entrepreneurs in digital industries.

  5. Strengthen community collaboration by engaging churches, schools, and local leaders in supporting youth empowerment initiatives.

4. Expected Outcomes

By the end of each 3-month training cycle (April, August, and November–December holidays), the program will achieve the following:

  1. 30 participants trained and certified in digital and computer literacy.

  2. At least 30 participants develop personal websites or digital portfolios.

  3. Increased community awareness of digital and online opportunities.

  4. Strengthened partnerships with local churches, schools, and NGOs supporting youth and children’s welfare.

  5. Development of a replicable, community-based digital empowerment model.

5. Target Beneficiaries

  1. Youth aged 16–30 from low-income backgrounds.

  2. Young women seeking digital and creative skills.

  3. Out-of-school youth and early graduates seeking employability enhancement.

  4. Community volunteers and leaders engaged in children’s welfare initiatives.

6. Implementation Strategy

The project will be implemented through a combination of theoretical instruction, hands-on practice, and mentorship sessions led by experienced trainers. Training will take place at the Ndumu For Good training centre, utilising structured curricula in computer skills, graphic design, and web development.

The program will also engage churches, schools, and community organisations to recruit participants, promote awareness, and build local partnerships.

7. Sustainability Plan

To ensure continuity and long-term impact:

  1. Cost Recovery Model: Future training cycles will introduce a minimal participation fee to sustain utilities and materials.

  2. Partnerships: Collaboration with NGOs, learning institutions, and private companies for technical and equipment support.

  3. Income Generation: Offering affordable digital design and website development services to sustain operations.

  4. Volunteer Network: Alumni will serve as assistant trainers and mentors.

  5. Digital Hub Development: The program aims to evolve into a self-sustaining Community Digital Resource Center.
